Varamahalaxmi Pooja-Vrat is celebrated on the Shukravaras (Fridays) of Shravanamaas. It is considered that the second Friday occurring on 20th August in 2021 in Shukla Paksha (Bright Fortnight) before full moon of Shraavan to be more auspicious.

Varamahalaxmi Pooja is performed across India, where goddess Laxmi is worshipped under different names. Among them the Varalakshmi Vrata or Varamahalaxhmi festival is the most auspicious festival celebrated by married Hindu woman to celebrate or commemorate Goddess Mahalakshmi. “Vara” in Sanskrit means “boon” and Goddess Lakshmi is known to shower all boons to those who performs pooja with utmost devotion on this day.

How to Celebrate Varamahalaxmi Festival or Varamahalaxmi Pooja?
The Varamahalaxmi festival is celebrated with grand decorations to goddess Laxmi and is performed for the well-being of family members. Hindu women observe a Vrat on this occasion for the health, well-being and a longevity of the husband and to get children, wealth and so on. Every year Varalakshmi Vratham is observed in Sravana month (in Telugu), Avani (In Tamil) Saawan (in Hindi). It is most celebrated on Friday preceding Pournami (the full moon day).Those who cannot perform it on that day, can do it on any other Friday in Sravan month. On this day, married woman observe fasting till they finish the puja.

In Hinduism, Mahalakshmi is known as the goddess of wealth and prosperity. Varamahalaxmi vratham is observed on a Friday that falls before the full Moon day of the month of Shravana (Shravanmas which falls between August and September).

Preparations for Varamahalaxmi Pooja:
As Varamahalaxmi puja is performed on a Friday, you can start preparing for the pooja on Thursday by readying all required pooja items and preparing the place of the pooja. Wash all pooja vessels, pooja Kalash, brass or silver lamps, apply Kumkum on the lamps and set aside all required Pooja Dravya (Puja items).
Varamahalaxmi Pooja or Varamahalaxmi Vrat Procedure:
Ganesha Pooja – all pujas or festivals are started with an offering of a pooja to lord Ganesh. A lamp is lit, flowers and aarati are offered to lord Ganesh while chanting the Ganesha Stotra.

Avahanam and Anga Pooja
After Ganesha pooja, flowers and akshata are offered to Mahalaxmi while chanting the Avahana slokam. Visualise Goddess Lakshmi in mind and offer the flowers and akshatha to kalasha. This is an invitation to Goddess Laxmi. Anga pooja is performed by offering flowers and akshata to each part of the goddess while chanting the Stotram.
Kalasha Pooja
Pooja is offered to the Kalasha while chanting the Laxmi Astothara (108 verses or names of Mahalaxmi). This is followed by Thorana pooja.
Naivedyam & Mangal Aarati
Finally, Mangal aarati is performed. Different types of sweets/Naivedyam are offered to the Goddess. Doram or the yellow thread should be tied on the woman’s right hand.
