Preparations for Lakshmi Pooja:
You can start preparing for the pooja on Thursday by readying all required pooja items and preparing the place of the pooja. Wash all pooja vessels, pooja Kalash, brass or silver lamps, apply Kumkum on the lamps and set aside all required Pooja Dravya (Puja items).
Lakshmi Pooja decorations:
Decorate the puja altar with Rangoli, Peetham (seating for the goddess), Thoranam (with mango leaves) and small plantain stems on the sides. Preparations are done for the pooja Prasadam (sundal, sweets etc). Decorate the peetham with silk saree, flowers etc. Place the Mahalaxmi Idol on the peetham.
Traditionally people decorate the idol with dress (small silk saree) and Jewelries and decorative garlands. Some decorate the Kalash with saree. Some people use actual gold jewels to decorate the idol. It is considered to be the Mangal sutra (ತಾಳಿ). Keep chandan and KumKum dots.
